Dogecoin Maxi DonAlt Posts $1 Price Prediction – Risk On For Meme Coins?
Dogecoin price chart

DonAlt, A crypto veteran who has been in the industry for many years and witnessed previous bull runs, tweeted yesterday to announce that he has become a “Doge maxi.”

For those unfamiliar with the term, being a “maxi” or maximalist means being a fervent supporter and believer in a particular cryptocurrency, often to the exclusion of others.

$1 Dogecoin Price Prediction

DonAlt, who boasts an impressive following of over 545,000 on the X platform (formerly Twitter), was asked in the comments about his realistic Dogecoin price target for this month, to which he confidently responded with “$1.”

I have become a DOGE maxi

— DonAlt (@CryptoDonAlt) May 4, 2024

This prediction is particularly noteworthy given that Dogecoin’s current levels hover around $0.16 after bouncing back from lows of $0.12 during this week’s market crash.

Interestingly, when we look at the data from the last 24 hours, Dogecoin has outperformed other top meme coins, boasting a 7% increase in value.

In contrast, WIF saw a more modest 3% gain, while SHIB and PEPE prices remained relatively stagnant during the same period.

DOGE Price Chart

From a technical standpoint, Dogecoin has been trading in a sideways channel for more than two months, fluctuating between $0.12 and $0.22.

The $0.12 level was recently tested and held strong during the market crash, aligning with the 200-day moving average, a key technical indicator.

For Dogecoin to continue its upward trajectory, the price needs to decisively break above the $0.22 resistance level, which has rejected the price on a couple of occasions, most recently in late March.

Adding to the excitement surrounding meme coins, Jacob Bury, a well-known YouTube influencer with over 38,000 subscribers, released a video yesterday highlighting the best meme coins to buy now.

Bury’s recommendations included Dogeverse, WienerAI, and Sealana, all of which are currently in the crypto presale stage and deemed to have potential.

As the crypto community eagerly awaits the next big move in the meme coin space, DonAlt’s bold prediction and newfound status as a “Doge maxi” have added some fuel to the already blazing fire of speculation and excitement.

Whether Dogecoin will indeed reach the coveted $1 mark remains to be seen, but the meme coin sector is again producing gains as Bitcoin recovered to above $63k area.

No matter whether memes are your cup of tea or no, crypto traders might potentially add Dogeverse, WienerAI and Sealana to their respective watchlists.

Everything we know about 'House of the Dragon' Season 2
Emma D'Arcy in

The Season 1 finale of House of the Dragon ended with a devastating, dragon-toothed crunch that shook the realm and set in motion the Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons. But with that epic cliffhanger came the horrifying realization that we'd have to wait for Season 2 to find out what would happen next.

This hiatus may have been dark and full of terrors, but thankfully, it's almost over. House of the Dragon returns to us June 16, when we'll finally see Queen Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy) and her half-brother King Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney) duke it out for the Iron Throne in earnest.

To get ready for the new season, read on for looks at the trailers, a rundown of new cast members, and predictions on what will happen next based on George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood. Here's what we know so far about Season 2.

SEE ALSO: 'House of the Dragon's ending was foreshadowed in the very first episode

What is the release date for House of the Dragon Season 2?

House of the Dragon Season 2 takes flight June 16, premiering at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and Max. The season will be made up of eight episodes instead of the first season's 10.

SEE ALSO: Vhagar the dragon is the ‘House of the Dragon’ finale MVP

Does House of the Dragon Season 2 have a trailer?

It has several! The first teaser, which you can check out here, gives us a brief look at the bloody war for the Iron Throne. "Many will die," Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) tells us. Knowing how things tend to play out in Westeros, that may just be the understatement of the century.

HBO stepped up its trailer game in March of 2024, releasing "dueling trailers." The first favors Team Black, those who support Rhaenyra's claim to the throne after the late King Viserys (Paddy Considine) named her heir. Among their numbers are Rhaenyra's uncle-husband Daemon (Matt Smith) and House Velaryon, including Corlys (Steve Toussaint) and Rhaenys (Eve Best). Meanwhile, Rhaenyra's eldest son Jacaerys (Harry Collett) hopes to grow those numbers with a visit to the Houses in the North — including the Starks!

Check out the Black trailer below to see how Rhaenyra and her allies are preparing for war, and how she plans to avenge the death of her son Lucerys (Elliot Grihault).

The second of the dueling trailers supports Team Green, led by Alicent as she tries to keep Aegon on the Iron Throne. In Season 1, Alicent misheard Viserys's dying words and believes he changed his mind about Rhaenyra being his heir. Now, she and her allies — including her father Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans) and knight Ser Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel) — will do anything they can to uphold what they believe to be Viserys's dying wish of instating Aegon as King. The sadistic Aegon is all too ready to go to war, as is his drama king brother Aemond (Ewan Mitchell), who relishes the challenge of facing down Daemon.

Check out the Green trailer below to see Alicent and her family brace for Team Black's wrath.

Who are the new cast members and characters in House of the Dragon Season 2?

As House of the Dragon Season 2 explores more of Westeros, you can expect to see plenty of new faces. Among them are Cregan Stark (Tom Taylor, The Dark Tower), the Lord of Winterfell; Gwayne Hightower (Freddie Fox, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare), Alicent's brother; and Alyn of Hull (Abubakar Salim, Raised by Wolves), a sailor in the Velaryons' impressive fleet.

Two other new characters point towards pivotal happenings at the castle of Harrenhal, currently the seat of House Strong. Simon Russell Beale (The Death of Stalin) will play Ser Simon Strong, castellan of Harrenhal. He's also great uncle to Larys Strong (Matthew Needham), whom you may remember for being an all-around snake. Joining Beale in Harrenhal is Gayle Rankin (GLOW) as Alys Rivers, a healer who lives in Harrenhal, and who's powerful in more ways than one.

Here's what happens next in Fire & Blood.

All hail the Black Queen! Credit: Ollie Upton/HBO

If you absolutely need to know what happens after Rhaenyra dons her war face at the end of Season 1, you've come to the right place. House of the Dragon has been mostly faithful to its source material so far, so I'm fairly confident that it will continue to adhere to the book in the aftermath of the death of Lucerys (Elliot Grihault). I'll be going full spoilers here, so if you don't want to know the future of the Dance of the Dragons, turn away now.

Rhaenyra and Daemon will retaliate against Alicent and her family in a big way. Team Black will attempt to shore up their forces by finding riders for riderless dragons like Vermithor and Seasmoke. Meanwhile, Daemon will attack Harrenhal on dragonback and win it without bloodshed, striking a major blow to the Greens. In Fire & Blood, this attack happens while Jacaerys (Harry Collett) and Lucerys are on their missions. Now, with the tragedy of Luc's death fueling Daemon, it's highly likely the show's version of the attack at Harrenhal will be on the more violent side.

And the violence will only continue! Because Daemon's next move in the book is among the most horrifying events in Westerosi history. (If you're having any doubts about spoilers, now's definitely the time to turn back.) Using his connections to the underbelly of King's Landing, Daemon enlists the help of two unsavory characters known only as Blood and Cheese. They attack the Red Keep and force Queen Helaena (Phia Saban) to choose which of her sons they will kill. They then proceed to murder the son she doesn't name. The attack is Daemon's doing in Fire & Blood, but given the rage in Rhaenyra's eyes at the end of the finale, is there a chance she'll get involved as well?

As chaos rages down south, Jace will travel north to the Eyrie and beyond, to Winterfell. On his trip north, he'll secure allies from Houses like the Arryns and the Manderlys. He will also befriend Lord Cregan Stark and win him to Rhaenyra's cause. So you can expect a mixed bag of sorts from the start of House of the Dragon Season 2. On the one hand, we get the Starks back. On the other, we get more traumatic child murder.

Brace yourselves, fellow viewers: Our wait may be long, but the coming Dance will be one heck of a jig.

Season 1 of House of the Dragon is now streaming on Max.

Meme Coin Price Predictions As Market Recovers – WIF, BONK, SHIB
Shiba Inu coin meme token

The crypto market has rebounded nicely over the past two days, with Bitcoin bouncing off lows around the $56,000 level to current prices near $64,000. This positive momentum has impacted various sectors, including the meme coin space.

Top meme coins like WIF are up 22%, while other prominent memes like SHIB have climbed 11%, and BONK has risen 9% in the last 24 hours.

Meme coin king DOGE price is also up today over 20%.

As the overall market sentiment improves, investors are closely watching the price movements and predictions for these popular meme cryptocurrencies. Let’s dive into the analysis and projections from crypto analysts and experts.

MEME COINS
Source: CoinMarketCap/memes

WIF Price Prediction

According to the 99bitcoins YouTube channel, which boasts over 700,000 subscribers, WIF (also known as DogWithHat) shows promising signs of continued growth. The channel stated:

“We can see in terms of market cap, we’re currently sitting at $3.1 billion, making this top 37 across 10,000 active cryptocurrencies. In terms of volume, we’re at number 18, which is great as well. And again, on the week as well, looking great, up 17%.”

The channel further noted that despite April’s downturn, WIF appears poised for bullish momentum entering May, with technical indicators like moving averages signaling strong buy signals.

“People want to load up on DogWithHat, again, very, very exciting things. It’s been a meme coin that’s just been so eccentric, everyone loves this coin,” the channel added.

While WIF is down 12% on the monthly chart, it hasskyrocketed an astonishing 1,600% over the past six months. Analysts predict WIF could potentially hit prices between $5 and $10 in May, highlighting the meme coin’s growing popularity and bullish sentiment.

BONK Price Prediction

Jacob Bury, a YouTuber with 38,000 subscribers, shared his technical analysis and price predictions for BONK. He explained his strategy of setting alerts on lower Relative Strength Index (RSI) levels to identify potential buying opportunities.

“So, to look at the technical analysis side of Bonk, um, just to reiterate my sort of strategy here with meme coins, I tend to set alerts on the lower RSI regions. So, for example, when Bonk hit 33 on the relative strength index here on the daily time frame, um, what that actually did, as you can see here, it presented a buying opportunity.”

Bury highlighted the importance of monitoring RSI levels, suggesting buying when the RSI falls below 40 during bull markets and selling when it rises above 80.

Looking ahead, Bury believes BONK could experience another significant upward move over the next three to six months, potentially reaching the $0.00006 region, representing a 2x opportunity from current levels.

“I do think it is possible because of the low Market C and the amount of growth we’ve still got remaining for the crypto space. I don’t think we are near the end at all in these crypto markets, and Bonk has just had a great demonstration of growth,” Bury stated.

Shiba Inu (SHIB) Price Prediction

Shifting focus to the popular Shiba Inu (SHIB) meme coin, Bury acknowledged the recent market downturn but expressed optimism for SHIB’s future growth.

“This has been a very much sort of poor start to May overall in the crypto space, but I do want to see Sheba start to grow more and more. We’re starting to see Doge up, Pepe up, um, you got Bonk up as well, quite a few meme coins are starting to shine once again, and overall, you can’t really argue with the performance of the day.”

Bury highlighted the increasing burn rate for SHIB tokens, with a 500% surge in the last 24 hours, indicating a significant number of tokens being removed from circulation.

He also noted substantial whale burns, including a recent 14.9 million token burn and a 35.8 billion token burn a few days ago.

From a technical perspective, Bury employs the RSI strategy, aiming to buy when the indicator dips below 30, as these levels have historically presented favorable buying opportunities for SHIB.

“So it’s looking all right, actually; it’s not looking too bad. So Sheini has had a big, big pump from this level. We can see there’s a lot of support at this dead on 0.00002 region, and since then, if you bought there, you’re up a good 15% at the moment.”

Bury suggests that if SHIB can retest the $0.00000028 level, it could form a double bottom bullish reversal pattern, potentially triggering a continued upside move for the meme coin.

Both the 99Bitcoins channel and analyst Jacob Bury have emphasized the potential for returns from newly emerged meme coin launches like Dogeverse and Sealana, projects that could see substantial gains in the coming weeks according to their analysis.

Google Pixel 9: Release date, specs, price and everything we know so far
Google Pixel 9 Pro

Google’s Pixel 8 series is widely regarded as one of the best Android phones on the market right now, so naturally all eyes are on what the tech giant are going to deliver for Pixel 9.

We know it’s coming, thanks to references to Pixel 9 appearing in the Google app earlier this year. According to Android Police, some code uncovered in the latest beta – version, 15.14.34.29 – appeared to be specific to Pixel 9.

While the Pixel series normally consists of two handsets, the Pixel and Pixel Pro, there are rumors that Google may introduce a third handset to the Pixel family this year.

The main thing that stands out with the early leaks is that Google appears to be closely mirroring Apple’s strategy of having three handsets, with the two ‘Pro’ versions having more features and better cameras. On top of that, the series’ expected redesign also reminds us of the iPhone. In fact, it looks like an iPhone from the front and the side, it’s just the rear camera configuration that looks distinctly different.

But what can we expect from Pixel 9, when will it be released, what are the specs, what will it look like and how much will it cost?

We’ve got you covered below…

Pixel 9: What we know so far and rumors

The biggest rumor so far is that a third installment to the Pixel series will be revealed this year, which is similar to Apple’s smartphone strategy. However, there have been differing reports on what we can expect from the third handset.

Android Authority had initially reported that it expected that we would see a 6.2-inch Google Pixel 9, 6.7-inch Pixel 9 Pro, and then a smaller Pro model with a 6.3-inch screen.

However, leaker OnLeaks, believes it will be the opposite, with the expectation of a Pro XL handset instead.

It’s also being reported that the Pro XL model will feature a 6.5-inch screen, which is incidentally smaller than the Pixel 8 Pro’s 6.7-inch display, contradicting OnLeak’s initial expectations.

Renders via MySmartPrice show the Pixel Pro XL to have a triple camera setup on the rear, including a periscope telephoto sensor next to the standard main and standard wide lenses.

The same renders suggest the Pro XL will measure 162.7 x 76.6 x 8.5mm, with the Pixel 9 Pro coming in a little more compact at 152.8 x 71.9 x 8.5mm. All while still resembling the same look, feel and design of the Pro XL.

The Pixel 9 is expected to have the same dimensions as normal with, like the Pixel 8, two rear cameras.

The main thing these leaks have highlighted is Google’s design changes to the Pixel series, with a move to flatter sides, much like the iPhone. However, it’s not yet known if this is accurate or if it will apply to all Pixel 9 models.

What are the Pixel 9 specs?

Here’s what we know so far…

Display

Contrary to the reports by Android Police above, the aforementioned leaks suggest the Pixel 9 will have a 6.03-inch display, the Pixel 9 Pro will boast a slightly larger 6.1-inch screen and the Pro XL will come in a 6.5-inch. All are expected to be 120Hz OLED.

Camera

There aren’t any specific rumors or leaks surrounding the Pixel 9 family’s camera configuration, although leaks ahead of the launch of the Pixel 8 series hinted then at the introduction of things like Video unblur and overlay features.

They didn’t arrive as initially thought, which may mean Google has been refining their cameras for the Pixel 9 series instead.

Rumors currently point towards the introduction of a telephoto lens to the Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL models, while this won’t be available on the Pixel 9.

Performance

It’s widely expected that the Tensor G4 will power the Pixel 9 family, based on Samsung Exynos chipsets.

The Tensor 4 chipset will have a new Samsung Modem 5400, which promises speed improvements, further stability and enhanced efficiency.

However, some early reports suggest Google may eventually be making a brand new chipset when Tensor G5 arrives with the Pixel 10. This is simply speculation for now.

In the meantime, all of the Pixel 9 handsets will be powered by tensor G4.

Software

Android 15 is expected to be run on all Pixel 9 models as a standard.

On top of that, we know that the Tensor G4 chip, introduced with the Pixel 8 series, has strong AI capabilities, so we expected that area to receive more upgrades, although it’s currently unclear whether all Pixel 9 models will come with the same AI functionality.

Again, nothing concrete confirmed as of yet.

What is the Pixel 9 release date?

Over the years, Google has launched their newest Pixel handsets in October, with each of the last three Pixel series’ coming in that month. So there’s every reason to believe Pixel 9 will arrive in October 2024.

However, we may get a very early peek at the phones at Google’s I/O developer conference, which takes place on May 10, 2024.

How much will the Pixel 9 cost?

We’re still a long way off the launch, so there are no reliable leaks or rumors in the cost department, but several relatively safe assumptions can be made, based on Google’s previous pricing strategy.

The Pixel 8 retailed at $699 and the Pixel 8 Pro launched at $999, both of which were $100 more expensive than the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro respectively.

However, the introduction of a third model to the series means we could see a price increase for the two staple models and then an even more expensive Pro XL handset.

These are only assumptions at this point, but given the Pixel 9 series is lining up to be very similar to the iPhone’s strategy of having three devices all at different price ranges, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Pro XL retails above $1,000.

Ukraine introduces AI-generated spokesperson for its foreign ministry
Victoria Shi, an AI-generated spokesperson for Ukraine's foreign ministry, stands behind a podium with the Ukrainian national emblem. She is depicted as a realistic digital human, dressed in a professional dark suit, gesturing naturally as if addressing an audience. The setting is a modern, digitally enhanced press room. Elements of technology and Ukrainian cultural symbols are subtly incorporated in the background. A digital screen displays the Ukrainian flag and the text of her speech, along with a QR code for authenticity verification.

Ukraine has unveiled an AI-generated spokesperson, Victoria Shi, to deliver official statements from its foreign ministry, according to The Guardian, marking a significant technological leap in diplomatic communication. The digital spokesperson was introduced in a social media presentation, where she appeared dressed in a dark suit, speaking and gesturing like a human.

Despite the innovative use of AI in her presentation, the foreign ministry emphasized that the content of Shi’s statements would be crafted and verified by human staff, not generated by AI. This ensures that the information remains accurate and reliable, while the AI component is limited to visual representation. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba highlighted that the use of a digital spokesperson is aimed at saving time and resources, allowing diplomats to focus on other crucial aspects of their work.

The spokesperson, whose name is derived from the words “victory” and the Ukrainian phrase for artificial intelligence, “shtuchniy intelekt,” was developed by the Game Changers team, known for their virtual-reality content related to the ongoing war in Ukraine. Shi’s appearance and voice are modeled after Rosalie Nombre, a singer and former contestant on Ukraine’s version of “The Bachelor,” who hails from the now Russian-controlled city of Donetsk.

To prevent the spread of misinformation and ensure the authenticity of the statements made by the AI spokesperson, the foreign ministry will accompany each of Shi’s presentations with a QR code. This code will link to text versions of the statements on the ministry’s official website, providing an additional layer of verification.

Shi is set to address various issues, including consular services, which have recently become a contentious topic in Ukraine. The country suspended such services last week for men of fighting age living abroad, a move that requires them to return to Ukraine for administrative procedures and potentially face the draft.

This initiative by Ukraine is the first of its kind in the world, positioning the country at the forefront of technological innovation in diplomatic services. By integrating advanced AI capabilities, Ukraine is not only enhancing its communication efficiency but also setting a precedent for how technology can be harnessed in governmental operations globally.

An in-game image from Fallout 4. A game character holds a large two handed gun. They are wearing metal 'power amor' all over their body.

The world has gone Fallout mad as Amazon Prime’s TV rendition of everybody’s favorite post-apocalyptic video game really hit the spot. In turn, people have been coming back to the game in their droves and modding the living daylights out of it but there is a version of Fallout 4 that hasn’t had as much attention, and today we are putting that right.

Get your PCVR headset out – be that your Index, your Pimax Crystal, or even your linked-up Meta Quest 3 we are actually going into the Wasteland and we are going to make sure it looks the best it possibly can do. You can even get your Fallout backpack on if you want to really feel the part.

How to mod Fallout 4 VR

The official Fallout 4 VR version, just like the Skyrim VR edition can be modded to your heart’s content. One thing worth underlining right here is that PCVR takes a lot of juice, Your PC and headset will just melt if you try to get too silly when it comes to graphical boosts, so stay sensible and follow our lead. A lot of these mods will improve the experience, not necessarily make the game look photo-realistic.

As ever we are going to use Nexus Mods (whose prices for a premium account are rising quite dramatically next month so you might want to get in there quick – just sayin’. There you will find many more Fallout 4 VR mods than we are listing here so feel free to add more or swap out some of our suggestions to fit your circumstance more.

Apple is fixing the worst thing about the iPhone’s alarms
a hand holding an iphone with its apps on show

If your iPhone alarm hasn’t gone off recently, it’s not just you — it seems to be a widespread problem, especially among owners of the iPhone 15. In a viral Reddit post, one iPhone user described how he set “several sequential alarms” but only one sounded. “I woke up to find that my earlier alarms had all remained ‘set’ but failed to sound,” the user wrote. “None of these are recurring alarms, so they shouldn’t ‘reset’ themselves after going off.”

In the replies, other Reddit users noted that they were experiencing similar issues. “I’ve had the same thing happen to me, set the alarm and then nothing happened at the time it should have gone off but it showed that it was still active,” one Redditor wrote. “I also thought something was wrong with me when I somehow slept through all 10 alarms,” another replied.

During a segment on the TODAY show, the company said that it was aware of the issue and was trying to fix it. But in the meantime, there are a few things that you can do to ensure that you don’t miss those alarms.

How to fix the iPhone alarm problem

One simple fix for the problem is by going into Settings menu, then to the Sound & Haptics submenu, and making sure the volume button is turned all the way up. Another is making sure that your face isn’t turned directly towards your phone screen in case you’re accidentally triggering Face ID.

Meanwhile, outlets like the New York Post are advising readers to toggle the Standby Mode of their iPhones off via the sliding Standby toggle under Settings.

But the most common fix seems to be turning off your Attention Aware settings on your iPhone. You can do this by going to the settings app. then selecting the Face ID & Passcodes menus, and then turning off Attention Aware features. Whatever the cause for this problem is, hopefully it’s sorted before the iPhone 16 Pro is released.

Democratic secretaries of state urge Meta to ban misleading election ads
A digital illustration depicting a diverse group of Democratic secretaries of state standing together, holding a large letter addressed to Meta. The letter, centered in the composition, symbolizes their unified demand to address election misinformation. The background features faded images of Facebook and other social media icons, enveloped in digital noise and static, representing the chaos of misinformation. The color palette and composition convey a serious tone and a collective call for action.

A group of Democratic secretaries of state has formally requested that Meta, the parent company of Facebook, discontinue allowing advertisements that falsely claim the 2020 presidential election was stolen. According to the Associated Press, this collective, which includes the secretaries from Colorado, Maine, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Washington, Vermont, and Wisconsin Secretary of State Sarah Godlewski, who does not oversee elections, expressed their concerns in a letter to CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

The letter highlights the negative repercussions of allowing such content, including the erosion of public trust in electoral processes and the incitement of political violence. These officials argue that Meta’s policies are enabling extremists to amplify election denialism, potentially causing further harm to the democratic system. They urged Zuckerberg to reconsider the company’s stance and prevent any further damage by banning these ads.

Despite multiple reviews, recounts, and audits affirming Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 presidential election, misinformation continues to circulate, fueled in part by former President Donald Trump’s persistent, unfounded claims of fraud. This ongoing narrative has not only polarized public opinion but has also subjected election workers to severe harassment and threats, leading to significant turnover in the profession.

The secretaries’ plea to Meta comes in the wake of a similar policy enacted by YouTube last year. The Google-owned platform decided to stop removing content falsely claiming U.S. presidential elections were fraudulent. However, YouTube and other platforms continue to grapple with the balance between freedom of speech and the prevention of misinformation.

Meta’s election integrity efforts

In response to concerns about its role in spreading misinformation, Meta has defended its efforts to protect elections globally. The company referenced its comprehensive plan for the 2022 midterm elections, which involves rigorous review protocols to remove content that violates its community standards, including misinformation about voting logistics and threats of violence related to electoral outcomes.

The letter was coordinated by the Democratic Association of Secretaries of State and reflects a broader political divide over how to handle misinformation on social media platforms. The ongoing debate touches on core issues of free speech, the role of tech giants in moderating content, and the integrity of the electoral process.

Elon Musk outlines vision for AI-driven news synthesis on X
An illustration depicting the integration of AI with news on the X platform, featuring a digital interface with a blend of news headlines and social media posts. In the background, circuit patterns and neural networks symbolize advanced AI technology. At the center, an AI brain or chatbot symbol, named Grok, processes and synthesizes this information. The color scheme combines traditional blue associated with X and futuristic silver tones, with icons suggesting real-time updates and user interactions.

Elon Musk, CEO of X (formerly Twitter), shared an ambitious vision this week for enhancing the platform’s news dissemination capabilities using AI. The proposed initiative, revealed through an email exchange with Big Technology, aims to synthesize real-time news with social media reactions into comprehensive, live updates. This novel approach could transform how news is consumed on X, making it a unique blend of reporting and public commentary.

The centerpiece of Musk’s plan is Grok, an AI chatbot on X, which is already experimenting with generating news summaries by aggregating posts from the platform. According to Musk, Grok will evolve to include more dynamic updates and better citations as more information becomes available. This AI-driven tool aims to provide “maximally accurate and timely information,” citing significant sources to create a more enriched user experience.

However, achieving this will not be without challenges. The AI must navigate complex issues such as accurate citation and avoiding the generation of misleading information — commonly known as “hallucinations” in AI parlance. Additionally, Musk’s strategy involves focusing solely on social posts rather than direct article content, which skirts closer to legal boundaries amidst growing copyright concerns in the AI industry.

If successful, Grok could significantly alter the landscape of news consumption on social media. It could serve as a gateway to deeper stories, potentially increasing traffic to original news websites. Josh Miller, CEO of The Browser Company, highlights the importance of robust citation practices in building user trust and stimulating curiosity. Similarly, Igor Babuschkin from Musk’s xAI team emphasized efforts to improve Grok’s citation capabilities to more accurately reflect original news sources.

The move could also have legal implications. Danielle Coffey, president of the News/Media Alliance, expressed skepticism about using only social commentary to summarize news, suggesting it might not sufficiently safeguard original journalistic content under fair use doctrines. This aspect is particularly poignant as major news publishers, including The New York Times, have initiated lawsuits against AI companies for similar practices.

Musk’s broader AI-generated news strategy on X

Despite initial steps that seemed to de-emphasize news on X, Musk’s detailed plan suggests a reaffirmation of news as a central feature of the platform. This could provide X with a competitive edge as other social media platforms, such as Meta’s Threads, move away from news content.

In essence, Musk’s vision for Grok on X is to create a synergistic platform where AI-generated summaries, grounded in user discussions and enhanced by continuous updates, offer a new way to engage with news. This approach aims to merge the immediacy of social media with the depth of traditional journalism, potentially setting a new standard for news aggregation in the digital age.
